The Hunt for a New Name (Contest)

Here's the deal... when I started this blog it was a tool to wrestle with my deconstructed faith and really it still is... it' a place to reconstruct what it means to love others, chronicle growth and healing, and share the things we are thankful for.  The purpose remains the same, but the name no longer fits.

In 2012 I totally could have whipped you up a delicious creamy latte made from fresh goats milk.  These days not so much... I still have a goat... and I love her very much...but alas milking is a thing of the past for us.
Plus I'm finding that there is a bit of a stigma surrounding goats milk and it seems the name Goat's Milk Lattes is not the inviting title I thought it might be.

Here's my plan... I'm asking you dear readers to help me rename this blog.  I will be choosing a name based on it's perceived longevity, cleverness and creativity are also good qualities and please nothing vulgar.

Of course what is a contest without prizes?  The winner will receive a brown paper package (may or may not be tied up with strings) of a few of my favorite, non cluttery, things.

Here's how to enter:
Leave me a comment with your new blog name idea(s) as well as your email address so I will be able to contact you if I choose your name.  Then share this post on your favorite social media site (there are share buttons below for this purpose) so others can join the fun.  The contest closes March 7 2015 at 4:00pm Pacific Time.

33 Clothing Items for 3 months... What I wore Week 1

A couple of interesting twists in my first week of having 33 clothing items for 3 months...

  • My husband installed my new full length mirror on the wall... Which made me realize that I gotta get some pants and leggings that fit (and give away the ones that don't)
  • I lost a pair of boots for 2 days and ended up wearing Toms in the snow. My three year old found my boots at the end of day 2... I am not totally convinced that she wasn't hiding them in the first place.
Here is my week of outfits:

Day 1:

I really love this outfit.  This is my favorite scarf, a new cardigan I bought before the challenge but ad never worn from Target (RIP), Skinny jeans (a fab hand me down from a pal) and my amazing retro black boots... Oh and my grey tank top is hiding under the sweater.

Day 2:

Another new cardigan and the skinny jeans again.  ( I may be developing a uniform). Layered navy and burgundy tank tops, and the really cool necklace my dad made for me.  This was the day my beige boots went missing... so I ended up wearing Toms.

Day 3:

Super casual hang out at home day.  Black leggings (which is 1 of the items needing replacement), black Target (RIP) cardi and my Sevenly Beauty tank.  I also tried a little something different with my hair that day.

Day 4:

I went skiing and did not take a picture of me in my snow pants and puffy jacket.

Day 5:

Date night with Craig. Skinny jeans, grey sweater dress, black skinny belt, animal print scarf my mother-in-law made me that goes with nearly everything and my black boots.

Day 6:

Cute and casual for Hudson's birthday party at the climbing gym... Boot cut jeans, burgundy tank, Sevenly Education Is Freedom Shirt, and carriage necklace.

What have you been wearing this week?

3 Habits I Want to Establish in 21 Days (How Did I Do?)

21 days ago I set a few goals... And here I am now being accountable to you... please be gentle...

1. No Phone During School Time

Oh my word... epic fail.  If I wasn't on my phone I was searching something on the laptop... I think I want a restart developing that habit.

2. Write for a Minimum 10 Minutes 6 Days a Week

I probably did this for 2 out of the three weeks... and I wrote a decent amount the third week as well... only a bit more work to make this habit stick!

3. Spend at Least 15 Minutes Outside Everyday

Umm did it happen everyday?  No... but I was outside a whole lot more than usual... we went for walks on our street, jumped on the trampoline, went hiking in the woods, took our rabbit out on a leash... and played at the park... Again just some more reinforcement to make this an unbreakable habit.

So 2/3 almost habits... not too bad right?

3 Habits I Want to Establish in 21 Days

Alright... since I just wrote 4 Ways to Remember Your Monthly Goals... I thought I better actually set a few goals and try out my methods.  So here are 3 habits I want to establish this month:

1. No Phone During School Time:

This pretty much looks just like it says... I will not be "playing" on my phone during school time.  Instead I will play with Delaney, be readily available to help the bigger kids and leave my phone on my bedside table during that time.  Yes I will put the no phone sign on the schoolroom door.

2. Write For a Minimum 10 Minutes 6 Days a Week:

It's one of the rules of writing don't you know?  Show up and write.  My plan?  Set a phone alarm (or maybe 2  just in case I am in the middle of a very important something or another when the first one sounds).  Then I will ignore any child who is not critically injured or having an explosive bodily function and write.

3. Spend at Least 15 Minutes Outside Everyday:

Again a phone alarm reminder will probably work well for this.  A walk with the kiddos after breakfast sounds... well slightly stressful... but with the right attitude it will be fun.  Ok ok so this might be an experimental ever evolving goal...

Leave me a comment and tell me what habits you want to work on... What strategies do you have for keeping your goals front and center?
